Edinburgh Fringe 2012: Day 3

One thing that comes with the territory at the Edinburgh Fringe, particularly when you’re starting out, is performing in front of an audience in the handfuls.

There is no getting away from it and you can only deal with what is in front of you, but I have a feeling that it will be common for our audiences to be small this year. Nevertheless, we will keep trying to boost the numbers; and even if an audience is a small one, they still deserve to be given as good a show as a larger one.

At last night’s show, we had seven people in attendance. This is two higher than the average Edinburgh Fringe audience and I would much rather perform in front of a small and receptive audience than a large, blank staring one. And it was another good show. They laughed and seemed to be enjoying themselves and we made £12 in the collection bucket at the end, with an added bonus of finding a quid on the floor when we were clearing up the room.

My set went pretty well; although a few lines fell flat, which forced me to think of follow-up lines that went down well and I might now keep in.

Monday’s are typically the quietest day of the Fringe, so I am bracing myself for a quiet gig tonight. But Edinburgh is always full of surprises and you can never really predict what will happen.

Following our gig, there is an open mic for musicians at our venue and I stumbled across something rather wonderful last night. I don’t normally like hip-hop, but it was a New York three-piece band with a beat-boxing rapper, a double-bass and a violinist. And they were ridiculously good. I will go and see their show.

Today, I have spent most of the day shut away in a study/cupboard with no windows. I am not being held captive by Paul Langton, I am just working remotely. I will be glad to get away from a computer screen for a few hours.

  • Thanks, I have ended up searching for information on this topic for ages and yours is the best I¡¯ve identified till today. But, what about the conclusion? Are an individual sure in regards to the source?
