It was the penultimate Saturday of the Fringe yesterday. I’ve written on here before about how the Fringe warps time. Sometimes, it feels like I’ve been for years. Other times, it feels like time has gone by in the blink of an eye.
It was a decent enough show yesterday, but a few aspects of the show felt flatter than usual. But this is nothing unusual for a Saturday during the Fringe. Consequently, I am renaming Saturdays to Flaturdays.
I also felt a little off the pace yesterday, which is hardly surprising given the battering my energy levels have been taking these past two weeks and a half. As if doing a full run at the Fringe wasn’t tiring enough, trying to fit in an eight or nine working day alongside it is not without its challenges.
Another factor was that the energy in the room seemed a little off yesterday. The audience was more divided in terms of the sections that were enjoying it and those that didn’t seem to be as much. But in this show, there will almost always be a few things that get big reactions – often when it starts to get more interactive and chaotic.
This year’s new sketch is also getting some big laughs and I’m figuring out new bits to add as I go. I don’t think it will ever top the show’s original sketch, but it is something a little different this year and ties into a particular musical project I have been chipping away at for several years now that is also featured.
What has been really nice this year is that five or six times, there have been people coming back to see the show again after seeing it in previous years. Yesterday, there was a group of four people who had come back to see it for the third time in several years. In fact, they actually won the quiz – and not only due to the loyalty points they have accumulated for seeing it for a third time.
When people want to come back and see your show again, it’s nice to know I’m doing something right.
I now have just eight shows left and sales figures are edging closer to the JPEG laurels territory.
