Edinburgh Fringe 2024 – Days 16-17

On Sunday’s show, I had a Hen Do in. It is the third time I have had a Hen Do in my audience, which have all taken place at the same venue I am back in again now and was for 2016 and 2017. They have always been good fun and Sunday’s show proved no different.

I will always remember during the 2011 run, it was the second Saturday of the Fringe and the first one had been brutal. I’d died on my arse solidly for 20 minutes and people just started walking out in droves. As the show was about to start on the following Saturday, me and Langton were filled with terror when a Hen Do came to sit on our front row.

But when we did our bit behind the curtain where we spoke into the mic about what sort of audience we had today and mentioned a Hen Do, it got a massive laugh. We quickly realised that if we were to survive, we needed to play to into it. We did just that and had a blast.

Monday’s show was also decent. The room was mostly full. But you know it’s the final week of the Fringe when you just forget to do something that you’ve been doing habitually for the last two and a half weeks. In this case, I hadn’t got my stool on stage or taken the Fact’s Bell out of the bag. I realised it wasn’t there quickly after starting the show and figured out a way to incorporate it into the set without disrupting the flow. However, this then meant that I missed a bit of material that I’ve been doing every day this Fringe. It didn’t really matter or cause anything disastrous to happen. It was really just a clear sign of fatigue.

I am edging closer to official sold-out status, but the final week is looking strangely quiet. I don’t know why this is, as it’s normally the busiest week of the Fringe. One possible explanation is that all the accommodation prices have increased, which made people go to the middle couple of weekends instead. Who knows? The mysteries of Edinburgh Fringe never cease, but sky-high costs for accommodation certainly aren’t helping anyone – apart from those charging people for a stay. I will write more details about accommodation in another post.
